Not enough staff to treat Covid patients

As the country blitzes its way through the eye of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, the issue won’t just be about having more beds for the surge of patients expected, it will be whether we have enough staff and oxygen to treat them.

This is according to professor emeritus in critical care at Wits University, Guy Richards, who is also advising Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.

Richards spoke to City Press this week on the processes followed to treat the respiratory complications associated with Covid-19 – and why the country would suffer from the shortage of ventilators.
