Four firms enjoy tender windfall in Limpopo

Four companies benefited from a windfall of almost R240 million after a municipality in Limpopo awarded them the exclusive right to skip the tedious process of bidding for tenders.

The Mopani District Municipality’s officials opted for the rarely used Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) method to award tenders.

Under this method, construction companies bid to be placed on a panel of contractors. Once that’s done, the companies are asked to submit only quotations for tenders that aren’t advertised for fair and competitive bidding.
