he fascination with everything automotive that we all share tends to be developed long before any of us held the piece of plastic that allowed us to get behind the wheel. That love was discovered in the earliest days of youth, scribbling out crude versions of those we saw driving down the street, furiously directing a die-cast around the same cityscape mat that we all somehow had, and watching characters in movies perform impossible stunts strapped into the driver’s seat. It’s safe to say that out of all the automotive childhood ventures, the one that influenced the masses the most was the advent of racing games—none more so than the cultclassic series Gran Turismo. There must have been a collective billion hours’worth of drive time accumulated around the world from this single title, and those memories of blazing around Trial Mountain, El Capitan, and Grand Canyon are burned into our brains.
