2020 GOLF GETAWAY GUIDE

Sure, we each have our favourite local course … Familiarity is comforting. But there’s nothing quite like packing up the clubs and hitting the road – or taking to the skies – to experience some of the gems the rest of Australia has to offer.

From Hamilton Island in Queensland to Western Australia’s Joondalup, this great country of ours boasts a smorgasbord of world-class golf courses. Perhaps best of all, however, is that some of them also offer accommodation deals to boot.

The following pages showcase some terrific Australian courses and their various accommodation options (onsite or otherwise), play and stay packages, as well as tour operators who will happily do all of the legwork for you. Presenting Golf Australia magazine’s annual getaway guide; your one-stop shop for planning your next Australian golf holiday.

HAMILTON ISLAND GOLF CLUB

Hamilton Island Golf Club is an 18-hole championship golf course on its very own island.

The par-71 course boasts spectacular views of the surrounding Whitsunday Islands and Coral Sea, but don’t let that fool you. Wicked winds, impenetrable bushland and a punishing design will test golfers of all levels. Players have even named the 14th hole the ‘Valley of Death’. Are you up for the challenge? Peter Thomson and Ross Perrett designed a course that revels in the local beauty and offers a truly unique golfing experience. Once you have tamed the course, the contemporary clubhouse is the perfect sport to relax, enjoy and remember why.

The course is situated on Dent Island neighbouring Hamilton Island. Hamilton Island is a private, 100 percent Australian-owned island resort located in the Whitsundays, which sits in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, Australia.

More than $600 million has been invested in creating a world-class experience on Hamilton Island, which now offers a range of hotel and self-catering accommodation options from modest to luxury, including the internationally-acclaimed qualia resort, 20 casual and fine dining restaurant options, over 65 tours and activities, two spas and a 300-plus berth marina. With its very own airport, you can fly direct to Hamilton Island from most eastern Australian capital cities and be enjoying the year-round average temperature of 26 degrees in under three hours.
