World Cup is the best-attended downhill race of the year. It’s become an annual pilgrimage, with 30,000 fans migrating north each June to watch the fastest racers on the planet do battle. For two days, our small Highland town at the foot of Ben Nevis is filled with mountain bikers. The crowds roar and new champions are crowned, but once the champagne’s stopped flowing and the World Cup circus rolls on to its next venue, normal life resumes. For those of us who live in Fort William, though, the buzz of riding here never disappears.
