Pansy block

This is an adaptation of a block I found some years ago.The original was without any curved corners, giving the traditional angular look to the pieced flower. I softened it by changing the knocked-off corners to rolled-back curves (one of my current favourite looks, as if you hadn’t noticed). I kept the sharp angles of the pansy centre to give it some strength, but the outer petals all curve nicely like the real flower.
The block is made in rows, so the flower finishes up leaning at a dangerous angle ().To make sense, it needs to be turned on point with corners of background fabric added, as in .This is the way it appears in my blue Sampler.
