This article was written as the country went into lockdown as a result of Covid-19. So let us acknowledge from the start that many of the libraries, museums, archives and sources mentioned in this article may not be readily available for readers to consult during these extraordinary times.
Derbyshire Record Office, located at the County Hall in Matlock, closed on 19 March, and all of its staff are now working from home. Although they have no access to the collections, they are still beavering away and you can find out about theirand visiting . This blog has been running since 2011 and is full of interesting stories, images, documents and unexpected finds.
