Since 2014 the county archives in Exeter and Barnstaple have been managed by the South West Heritage Trust. This independent charity brings together services previously provided by both Somerset and Devon councils. It looks after all types of historical archives relating to the county of Devon and the City of Exeter (excluding Plymouth), including church records, family collections, estates, schools and other organisations. The West Country Studies Library is also located here, with books, pamphlets, journals, printed maps, newspapers and ephemera relating to Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Cornwall.
