We hear a lot about repllca scooters; a lot are done to try and create the idea of owning a special model that's hard to come by, or expensive to buy (like the GP200 Electronic, or the SX and TV200 models). Some are purely done out of love for a certain machine style, or as a budget machine when someone Is completing a project on a shoestring.
Dean Lloyd's passion for Lambrettas is only surpassed by his lack of patience to get a job done as soon as his idea hits the back of his head. I was honoured to be asked to rebuild/restore a Lui 50CL for him which wascovering everything from its strip-down to the finish; so when he told me he had bought a well-restored Series 2 Li back in March 2020, I was curious to know what he was going to do with this good-looking machine. In his youthful scootering days he'd chop it to bits and paint it matt black all over (God forbid that to happen!). At first it looked like he'd had some sort of stroke; he had some tartan seat covers made for the single seats and a legshield spare wheel cover in the same material. I was stunned that he'd turned into a quiet chap, going out with his partner for Sunday rides and a picnic
