❏ A set of 3.5mm double-pointed needles (DPNs)

TENSION

17 sts and 26 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over main st pattern using 5mm needles

ABBREVIATIONS

DS German short rows

1 Starting on a knit row/round; knit to the stitch specified, turn.

2 Slip stitch from left needle to right needle purlwise with yarn in front.

3 Take yarn to back of work over the top of the right needle, to create a stitch that looks like a double stitch.

4 Take yarn to front of work between needles.

5 Purl to the stitch specified, working the first few stitches slightly tighter than normal to help keep short row neat, turn.

6 Take yarn to front of work between needles.

7 Slip stitch from left needle to right needle purlwise with yarn in front.

8 Take yarn to back of work over the top of the right needle, to create a stitch that looks like a double stitch (DS).

9 When working back across the ‘double’ stitches, close the short row gaps as you reach them by working the double stitches
