■ Scheepjes Metropolis (75% merino extra fine, 25% nylon, 50g/200m), 1 ball of each: Warsaw (072), Cota (024), Montreal (059), Miami (069), Pasay (022), Colombo (020), Hamburg (080), Darwin (044), Seoul (035), Dhaka (040)

■ A 2mm (US B/1) hook

■ A 2.5mm (US B/1 or C/2) hook

■ 11 buttons, 1cm

■ Wooden rod, 50cm

TENSION

Tension is not critical for this project, but it may affect the yarn quantities required

MEASUREMENTS

Wallhanging measures 40x64cm (15¾x25in)

ABBREVIATIONS

 mtr (mosaic treble) Work a standard treble in front of the ch-sps and into the skipped st

3 rows below fdc (foundation double crochet) Ch2 (does not count a st), *insert hook into second ch from hook, yrh and pull up a loop, yrh and pull through 1 loop on hook (this loop will sit at base of st), yrh and pull through 2 loops on hook; rep from * as required inserting hook into the loop at the base of previous fdc made

PATTERN NOTES

Wallhanging is worked using the mosaic crochet method.

MOSAIC CROCHET NOTES

Change colour every 2 rows. When a second colour appears in a row, skip those sts and ch the number of skipped sts +1. On the next row, using a new colour, you will work a mtr into the skipped st 3 rows below, leaving the ch-sps on the WS. On the second row in the new colour you will work a dc into each mtr across.

Change colour on the final yrh of row before colour change is indicated and carry the unused yarn up the side of your work.

CHART NOTES

Each small square on the Chart represents 1dc st and each long rectangle represents 1mtr. Read all RS rows from right to left and all WS rows from left to right.

WALLHANGING

Refer to the Chart on page 96. The first six rows of the Chart have been written out to guide you.

Using a 2.5mm hook and Miami, ch2.

Row 1 (RS) Make 87fdc. [87 dc]

Row 2 (WS) Ch1 (does not count as a st throughout), dc in each st across, turn. Change to Hamburg.

Row 3 Ch1, dc in first 3 sts, (ch2, skip 1 st, dc in next 3 sts) 21 times, turn. [66 dc, 21 ch-2 sps]

Row 4 Ch1, *dc in each st to next ch-sp, ch2, skip ch-sp; rep from * across, turn.

Change to Miami.

Row 5 Ch1, dc in first 3 sts, (mtr, dc in next 3 sts) 21 times, turn. [66 dc, 21 mtr]

Row 6 Ch1, dc in each st across, turn. [87 sts]
