Swedish meatballs

In Sweden, meatballs are usually served with mashed potato and lingonberry sauce, but you could use cranberry or another tart, fruity sauce or chutney.

SERVES 8 PREP 15 mins COOK 30 mins EASY

1kg minced pork (you could also use chicken or turkey mince)
2 eggs
125ml cream, double or single
60g fine dry breadcrumbs or finely crushed crackers
1 onion, finely chopped pinch of allspice (optional) pinch of grated nutmeg oil, for frying
mashed potato, lingonberry sauce or cranberry sauce, to serve

For the red wine sauce

2 tbsp plain flour (or use self-raising, if you don’t have plain)
250ml beef stock
100ml red wine
