WHILE THE NAME Kelvin Ho, or his practice Akin Atelier, may not immediately spring to mind, chances are you have shopped in a store he has designed (think Incu, Bassike, Camilla and Marc, and Dion Lee), eaten at a restaurant that is the product of his distinct creative process or even watched The Australian Ballet where his open-minded, collaborative spirit has resulted in the set design. He is always thinking of ways to do things differently. Now based in an atmospheric laneway in Sydney’s Surry Hills, for years the practice grew organically without a website or visible means of promotion. “When we came to design the website we looked at the body of work and couldn’t see how this diverse portfolio could look visually consistent,” says Kelvin.
