I WAS appalled to read your description of childhood holidays as ‘magical’ (). What nonsense. British childhood holidays of the 1960s and 1970s were universally rubbish, the food horrid, the weather atrocious and the opportunities to misbehave limited by the foul omnipresence of one’s parents. Even an innocuous pleasure such as eating ice cream needed parental consent, often withheld on the unreasonable grounds that ‘you’ve had two already’. Give me!
