Use Vivaldi
You can upload to Instagram from your computer using the Vivaldi web browser, and as far as Facebook compression goes, if you size your image to either 2048px or 1024px along the longest border you do seem to get better-quality reproduction.
However a major gripe of mine with Facebook is that it strips out the image metadata, which can contain all sorts of information including copyright notices and contact information. Since this takes up an absolutely minimal amount of data I do find this somewhat suspicious and unnecessary (as if Facebook needed any more conspiracy theories...). Anthony Bliss
