With a dazzling smile and an unmistakeable twinkle in her eye, the Princess Royal celebrated turning 70 with the release of these three striking new official portraits.
The royal posed for renowned photographer John Swannell, who has documented her milestone birthdays for the past four decades, before spending her birthday on 15 August sailing Scotland’s West Coast with her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.
Shot at Gatcombe Park, the private Gloucestershire home where she lives surrounded by her children, grandchildren and beloved horses, the photos show the Princess with her trademark chignon, which she styled herself.
