COOL, COOL KARMANN COUPE

BUILT WITH IN EIGHT ABOUT YEARS 42,000 , TYPE EXAMPLES 34S ARE A MOST ON U. UNUSUAL S. ROADS TODAY SIGHT

When was the last time you accidentally stumbled on a Type 34 on the road? We can confidently guess that the vast majority of our readers will answer… never. There are good reasons, starting with the fact that Volkswagen produced only 42,505 of them between 1962 and ’69, certainly not a staggering figure. Also, VW never officially imported the vehicle in the U.S., hence the few found on our streets were privately brought in from other countries.

Thankfully, the and the Type 34 Karmann Ghia Registry have been influential in keeping track of survivors and help owners find rare parts. With 1,700 members worldwide, the registry estimates that 2,500 of these vehicles exist today, including about 1,000 listed on the webpage. The group has been instrumental in getting them to attend shows, with the largest U.S. get-together taking place during California’s 2003 VW Classic, welcoming 28 entries.
