Trying to pinpoint a date when motorcycle sport began is likely impossible, but the comment ‘when the first two motorcyclists met’ isn’t so wide of the mark.

What is known is the history of some early events and Kop Hill hillclimb was right there at the start of the sport. Racing on public roads came to an end on the mainland UK after a number of incidents caused the RAC to temporarily halt such permits and Kop Hill climb was among the last such events.
