BEER KEGS was once an iconic traffic for Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ) throughout the island of Ireland. The introduction of ISO standards for intermodal freight saw modern aluminium beer kegs transported in special cages on CIÉ’s 1971-built 42ft long ‘LP-type’ intermodal wagons, starting in the early 1970s.
