Money driving MLS and Liga MX merger

On April 18, after several days of speculation, Liga MX president Enrique Bonilla announced that the Mexican top flight will suspend promotion and relegation for the next five seasons. Ascenso MX, as the second tier was known, will disappear and give way to Expansion MX, which will essentially be a glorified Under-23 tournament.
