Boston Area Marriage License Requirements

In Massachusetts, the legal age for marriage is 18 years old. Couples under 18 must have parents present and obtain a court order if 16 years old. Neither residency nor blood tests are required. Both the bride and groom must apply for and sign the license together. There is a three-day waiting period to obtain the license, which is valid for 60 days in the state of Massachusetts only. If either the bride or groom has been previously married, she or he must know the dates of the divorce or death; official documentation is not required.
