Farewell Darrell Vittone - Race in Peace

On April 29, 2020, our wonderful VW community lost one of its greatest heroes, Darrell Vittone. He was a true pioneer of the VW hot rodding/performance industry, as well as drag racing, and a true legend of the Volkswagen scene.

I can confidently guess that most readers have heard the name Darrell Vittone. But if you are part of the younger generation and don’t know much about him, let us share some of his most commendable achievements, even though this column’s space is limited.

Darrell Vittone was only 10 years old in 1954 when he became a VW enthusiast. Darrell’s father, Joe Vittone, started a Volkswagen and Porsche dealership, Economotors, in Riverside, California. That’s when Joe brought a brand-new Beetle
