SOUTH AFRICA has a variety of climate regions. Some parts of the country get a lot of rain, while others receive moderate to little precipitation. Some regions have colder winters or hotter summers than others. The western part of South Africa is drier than the southern and eastern parts. All of these factors influence the type of plants and animals found in each area.
Thanks to the variety of climates, South Africa has a rich diversity of plant and animal species. Last week we discussed the world’s largest biome, the ocean, and SA’s marine ecoregions within it.
