Quilters Companion

Pinball Wizard

Using both your foundation and curved-piecing skills, you too can create this dynamic modern quilt design. Using two of her favourite traditional patterns, Double Wedding Ring and Pickle Dish, Jo has combined them and simplified the blocks by using quarter-circles, strips and HST units. The design looks complex, but the blocks are actually very straight-forward and you can use up some of your scraps. A mixture of different low-volume fabrics — light neutral fabrics with just a hint of pattern — make up the background, but you could substitute a plain, light background fabric. Jo says this quilt reminds her of a psychedelic pinball arcade machine from the 1970s. What do you think?
