State Parks Opening
The Division of State Parks has been reopening parks across the state. All openings are subject to COVID-19 guidelines and county emergency orders. State park camping and lodging areas are not quarantine locations.
“We are pleased that Hawai‘i has been so successful in flattening the COVID-19 curve, which allows us to reopen more park areas — particularly some overnight opportunities, which lets families further enjoy Hawai‘i’s outdoors,” said State Parks Administrator Curt Cottrell.
Kaua‘i: All parks are open. Camping and shelters in Koke‘e State Park are available. Statewide camping reservations are limited to a 30-day advance booking, and groups must be from the same household. Other Kaua‘i camping areas were anticipated to open on June 16. Commercial boat tours are running. Polihale State Park remains closed for road repairs.
O‘ahu: Most O‘ahu parks are open. However, popular lookouts that attract crowds remain closed. Hikes are open on Wa‘ahila Ridge Trail and the Makapu‘u Lighthouse Trail with parking open only on weekends. Nu‘uanu Pali State Wayside, the crater interior and Summit Trail at Diamond Head State Monument are closed. Ka‘ena Point State Park (Mokule‘ia Section) allows vehicle access by permit. O‘ahu campsites reopened Friday, June 12. Malaekahana State Recreation Area is closed until completion of a paving project.
