GEARING UP FOR HOTTER SUMMERS

Air conditioning is a major culprit in Australian electricity use, which is a bit of an irony when you consider the rising temperatures experienced in Aussie summers and how they drive so many of us to flick on the air con. It presents another problem for caravanners, as air conditioners are a massive drain on battery power, so much so that they’re basically a waste of space and weight any time we’re parked anywhere other than a powered site.

Australian engineer James Trevelyan believes that he has the solution. He says that his Close Comfort personal air conditioners can cut the running costs of an air con system by up to 75 per cent. He’s tested it out in some of Australia’s (and the world’s) harshest conditions, to prove it. These compact, relatively lightweight units could be perfect for keeping your caravan cool, so we spoke to James to find out more.
