Colorado Police Officers Under Investigation For Photos At Elijah McClain Memorial

The photos surfaced after an officer with the Aurora Police Department reported them to the internal affairs unit. Officers in the photos have since been placed on administrative leave with pay.
Officers in Aurora, Colo., face off with protesters outside the police department's headquarters at the Aurora Municipal Center on Saturday over the death of Elijah McClain. The department says it's investigating photos that several officers took at a memorial site for McClain, who died in police custody in August 2019.

The police department in Aurora, Colo., is investigating several officers who posed for photographs near the site where Elijah McClain was forcibly arrested as he walked home from a convenience store last summer. The site became a memorial to the 23-year-old who died in police custody. He was not suspected of committing any crime.

Interim Chief of Police Vanessa Wilson late Monday night, saying that when she learned about the photos on Thursday, she "immediately ordered Internal Affairs to make this investigation their top priority."
