THANK you to all readers who called, texted, emailed and wrote in this month. The response to the My Cert Pt 1 article, Letters to the Editor and Publisher’s Podium (Train Wreck) evoked a strong response from you. The verbal feedback I received led me to believe some professionals involved in the industry are clearly operating under a “Culture of Fear” (real or perceived) in regards to certification and don’t want to risk jeopardising future work by publicly stating in writing their true feelings which is understandable, but a real shame. Here’s a sample of some of the replies. These comments are from individuals and are not necessarily the view of this magazine.

HI PAUL, I, and probably most of those involved or who have ever had to put a vehicle through the current LVVTA system would wholeheartedly agree with your thoughts on this vitally important issue. It has been like using an atom bomb to destroy a mosquito. Well, they might have got the bastard, but they totally ignore the collateral damage, both commercially and psychologically and have directly caused serious damage and embarrassment to the Auto Hobby Industry as a whole. It is only fair that you gave those concerned the opportunity to respond. Interestingly, part of the reply was - if a problem arises ‘please do contact the LVVTA for help’, That is what they are there for - to solve any problems’. Well and good but it was followed by ‘IF THERE ARE ANY ‘. This typically arrogant attitude and denial shows exactly what anyone who attempts to discuss an issue is up against and inevitably concludes there is a them and us situation - THE WALL and give up. And this sadly is the reason why many good, well qualified, knowledgeable and helpful certifiers and engineers have given up over the years as well.
