STAG PARTY
The Fenland Stalker’s article Return of the Native (03 June issue) mentioned the Norwich Staghounds, which I believe had stopped hunting by the 1960s. My late grandfather (and his father before him) kept a village pub in the Staghounds’ ‘country’ in south Norfolk ; it was something of a tradition for the hunt to use ‘The Queen’ as a base to ‘turn-off’.
Apparently the visits by the Staghounds were considered to be important social occasions and plenty of locals would be waiting outside the public house to see the hunt
