Happy HOUSEPLANTS

A POTTED HISTORY

There are many crazy plant ladies and I’m proud to say I’m one of them. I grew my first houseplant in Scotland when I was eight. It was an orange tree, lovingly grown from a pip (it never fruited). My second was a vine from seed inside a carved Peruvian gourd from the hippie shop. It strangled our net curtains and my mother hated it. After I’d cut it free, my mother relented and bought me a mother-of-thousands saxifrage plant, from which I sold plant babies – and paid for new curtains.
