WEHBBA
With a career spanning more than 10 years, the Sao Paolo-born multitalented electronic producer and DJ Rodolfo Wehba seems hellbent on setting himself new creative challenges, varying his approach to music-making and continually honing his many skills.
Releasing music under the name Wehbba, his first few diverse studio albums, Full Circle and Square Two, established him as a melodically focused composer with an ear for texture and as a funk-influenced and crowd-baiting DJ, respectively. With his third offering Straight Lines and Sharp Corners, Wehbba has sought to craft a concept album like no other, further blurring the ever-thinning boundaries between producers and DJs, and creating new and absorbing sonic textures from found sounds and classic hardware.
In making this record, Wehbba has put together a mouth-watering assortment of equipment, building an impressive live rig that’s both portable and packed with incredible technology. Though, like many artists around the world, the COVID-19 crisis meant that Wehbba was forced to postpone his touring plans for 2020, when we spoke to him in his Barcelona-based studio, we found that his ambition and enthusiasm were unshaken.
