At the time of going to print we were anticipating that the social and financial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic may last for many years; it could even change our views on food security forever.
Amid the panic and fear, we saw scarcity on supermarket shelves — not just of toilet paper but also fresh produce such as meat, greens and eggs, at times.
We also saw the rapid disappearance of vegetable seed and seedlings from nurseries and the buying up of point-of-lay chickens. These could all be positives if they lead to more of us growing our own food.
