Where there’s muck, there’s brass

BUY land,’ urged Mark Twain, ‘they’re not making it anymore.’ A piece of advice that an increasing number of investors has taken in recent years—me included. There is great satisfaction to be had from possessing even quite a modest farm: the sense of being close to Nature, of creating something from nothing and of working to improve the environment. Nor should one ever overlook the feelings of self-sufficiency and security that owning agricultural land engenders. In these troubled times, I find it reassuring to look out of the window and think that everything I survey, such as it is, belongs to my family.
