Home office design guide

In light of recent events, many of us will have found ourselves switching from office worker to home worker, some for the very first time. And although it might be tempting to plonk your laptop/ computer on the breakfast bar or dining table and start typing, is it a sustainable ‘working from home’ solution? Probably not.

While working from home during lockdown may not be a permanent affair, it will perhaps shape the way we work in the not-so-distant future. And, it’s more than likely got most of us thinking about the way in which we use our homes — with a dedicated home office or area for home working becoming an increasing priority for many.

The good news is, those building a new home, or those of you who are planning a major remodel or extension project have an unrivalled opportunity to design in a home office or space to work, rather than shoehorning this into an existing home. There’s plenty to consider but it means you have the opportunity to plan your space in at the design stage, giving you scope to really think about lighting, electrics, the tech and soundproofing, for example.

However, there’s plenty of solutions for those taking on smaller projects, too.
