AFTER DISPLACING GOOGLE Maps as the default iOS navigation app in the fall of 2012, Apple Maps drove straight into a storm of controversy when it turned out to not quite live up to the hype compared to its predecessor. Thankfully, engineers in Cupertino shifted the project into a higher gear in recent years, culminating with the arrival of iOS 13, plus subsequent enhancements rolled out for those of us in the United States earlier this year.
