I JOINED CHRYSLER ENGINEERING
In 1964 as Student Engineer in the Chrysler Institute of Engineering. This was a two-year program that led to a Master of Automotive Degree. One of my rotating job assignments was in the Experimental Buildup area, where we built prototype and program vehicles for future production years. In early 1965, one of my projects was the 1966 Turbine Car. Your article in HCC #188 mentions that some reports said the 1966 Charger was copied from an abandoned turbine car project. The project was indeed abandoned, but not before we had built a 1966 Turbine Car program vehicle based on the 1966 Dodge Charger. I do not know what happened to the car after the project was abandoned. I had moved on to another assignment shortly after we finished it. I expect it was scrapped at the Chrysler Chelsea Proving Grounds, just like most other prototype and program cars were after they no longer had any use by Engineering or Manufacturing.
