Sitting in the optician’s chair, I was asked to read out the letters on the screen. But as much as I tried, squinting and winking in the lens, I just couldn’t work it out.
‘I think it’s an A,’ I whispered. The optician was concerned, referred me to a specialist optometrist.
There, I was diagnosed with Marfan syndrome–a genetic disorder of the connective tissue.
It meant that my sight was damaged.
I was given huge bifocal glasses to help me see.
