Poem by Paula Turner
When he proposedhe promised meearth and stars, but didnât tell mehe would provideby stealing the landfrom indigenous peoples,by blasting the rocksto reshape landscapes,by sending childrendown dark minesin order to retrieveshining splendours,by poisoning rivers,by burning forests,by turning men to slaves. He promised me the earth, and all thatâs in it.But a pretty dresscan cover many ills, and still, I have sugarto stir into my tea.
