The true final Impala hardtop
I would like to refer to page 28 of the Nov. 28, 2019, issue of Old Cars. The article on Impalas states, “The Impala hung onto the hardtop through 1975.” This is incorrect.
I own a 1976 Impala four-door hardtop, showing the hardtop was with the Impala through 1976. I bought this Impala new, and it was my daily driver until February 1978 when I received a promotion at work that included a company car. The Impala then became a “back up” vehicle. (I still have a company car, but now own the business.)
My 1976 Impala now has 66,000 miles — not bad for being 44 years old.
It eventually became considered a classic car in Pennsylvania, and I have used it as a show car. In June 2019, I changed its registration to a Pennsylvania Vintage Car (Pennsylvania currently permits “Vintage Car” registrations through 1976.)
