    The twist grip throttle: Indian claim to have had the first production motorcycle to have this, pioneering its use in 1904 – although I am talking about early adoption in this piece, and European manufacturers appear to have been woefully late in getting around to what is now an integral part of motorcycle design.

    Consider that my 1917 Harley-Davidson had a twist grip on each bar (one for advance and retarding the ignition, and the other throttle) yet my far more sporting 1926
