SOUTHERN REEF BRAWLERS
It’s fair to say the southern half of Australia receives little recognition as far as big fish accolades. Instead it is the warmer waters of the north that tend to receive all the attention, boasting a plethora of drag pulling species capable of testing even the most experienced and hardcore angler. Whilst this is somewhat true in respect to the array of species on offer, the southern region is undeniably still capable of dishing up its fair share of big fish offshore action and anglers have some great opportunities available to explore on the reefs in this neck of the woods. These options are largely seasonal in nature however within respect to the prevailing cooler weather conditions and climate. The onset of warmer weather across the summer months therefore largely dictates the arrival of many species and thus produces the best offshore action. It is undoubtedly the best period to find the more desirable species concentrated and stacked up in numbers where they can be targeted with baits and rigs tailored to their individual characteristics. Mixed sized yellowtail kingfish and samson fish headline the act
