Having spent a number of years challenging the definition of ‘videogame’ with the, and , Simogo returned with one that didn’t just wear the label proudly, but in giant capitals, illuminated in dazzling neon. For a game it feared might be a farewell tour (its recently announced partnership with Annapurna thankfully confirms it’s anything but) the Swedish studio gave us a tale of a young woman’s heartbreak within a whistle-stop journey through the medium’s history – with a particular focus on Sega’s back catalogue. At times it’s , at others it’s , with -style interludes besides, and even hints of Sonic at his fastest and most freewheeling.
