Like a rabid animal

Cheering in excitement, I watched as the horses thumped along the dusty track.

‘Thanks, Dad!’ I grinned as he topped up my glass of fizz.

It was August 2018, and I was at Newbury Racecourse for the day with my dad Patrick, then 53, my brother Jude, 20, and two sisters, Abbie, 26, and Imogen, 24.

We’d just enjoyed a slap-up meal and now we were watching the horse races in the sunshine.

‘Yes!’ I cried, as my horse came in third.

‘Lucky!’ laughed
