Artists from Shepparton’s Aboriginal art centre, Kaiela Arts, will explore, through a variety of media, the colours, textures and varieties of vegetation that grows along the Kaiela Dungula (Goulburn Murray) River system. Many of the indigenous species have now largely died out, due to agricultural practice. Vegetation which once filled this beautiful riverland country included grasslands rich in wildflowers, herbs, orchids and lilies; grassy woodlands dotted with trees of Grey Box or bulokes and wattles; and floodplains with majestic forests of River Red gums, wattles and sedges. Through the art making process, this exhibition will help to some degree, bring these species back to life.
