If you have spent much time feeding your whitetail addiction via social media, you most likely have heard about “doe factories.” Social media has become the popular medium for selling hunting and habitat consulting services these days, and the doe factory concept seems to be one of the most effective hooks that a few consultants use to get clients to utilize their services.
I’ve followed this topic with tremendous interest over the last 10 years or so. Although the purported causes have evolved over this time, the underlying message hasn’t. That is that doe factories are things to be avoided at all costs, they’re extremely easy to create and most often require hiring a consultant to fix.
What follows are the boots-on-the-ground, dirt-under-the-fingernail lessons that I’ve learned about doe factories. We’ll cover what they really are, how they are created and how to effectively avoid creating them, as well as how to revert them to their previous conditions.
