IT began, like so many things, in China. My friend Gerald, a techno-Jurassic, but, like all of us, having to learn fast, had accidentally hacked into my e-contacts. (My address book, need I point out, is more star-studded than that of du Maurier’s Rebecca.) His message of concern —‘Are you self-isolating in the Van Blanc?’ —went out to 64 random recipients of my acquaintance.
‘Whoever your silly Gerald is, he’s pressed Reply All,’ pinged back Comic National Treasure, blind-copying all 64 of us.
