I am disappointed that BASC has already thrown in the towel regarding using lead for game shooting. There seems to exist the assumption that we all use modern 12-bores and are content to propel heavy loads of large steel shot at game, disregarding those of us who choose not to follow the herd. A quick glance at any cartridge dealer’s lists will show how well we are catered for. My beloved 16-bore is only offered bismuth loads at £1.60 a shot — way beyond the budget of a retired college porter. Presumably, that 16-bore will also retire and become practically valueless.
