Sorting a weighty problem

Q Does weight sorting ammunition for accuracy really work? I am a bit sceptical.

A Sometimes inaccuracy can be due to the ammunition and not the rifle’s construction.

There are myriad reasons why this happens, but there is a simple way to solve it using weight sorting. It takes little time and the benefits can often be surprising.

First, check your ammunition is from the same lot number from the manufacturer — or the cases for reloading are all from the same manufacturer. Size and weight will diff er.

Purchase a small set of scales, such as the Hornady GS 1500, which can cost less than £30 and will pay for themselves in a short time. Weigh individual cases if you are reloading and sort into columns of similar weight to
