Ding-dong on the river

My first visit to the Tweed came in early March. Encouraged by reports of a better run of fish, there was some degree of hope about the outcome. But I was a little dismayed to see the river quite low and felt some hard work would be required if we were to make as good a showing as in the previous weeks.
I started off in my big breast waders — it was too low for boating — and had not been fishing for very long before I got a telltale pull. The fish did not fight very hard and I quickly had a kelt floundering at my feet.
It was duly returned and I was pleased to reflect that this was the first kelt I had taken in the past
