BASSENTHWAITE LAKE SAILING WEEK

OVERVIEW: Bassweek Regatta is billed as one of the very top sailing events for any bucket list: well appointed and refurbished clubhouse overlooking stunning scenery; the only power craft on the lake are the regatta’s safety boats; extensive grounds for camping and caravanning; daily class and fleet racing with generous awards; and extensive social programmes both for competitors and for younger family members.

FILEY SAILING CLUB REGATTA
20-21 June, Filey SC, Arndale Country Carpark, Filey, North Yorkshire
OVERVIEW: Annual regatta in beautiful Filey Bay offering spectacular sailing location. Two courses each day: ‘P’ course for traditional classes, and windward-leeward course for asymmetric classes. Club opens Friday afternoon 19 June; until Sunday evening 21 June. Food, snacks, bar and Saturday night entertainment. Plenty of local accommodation including camping through the club.
INSIDER TIP: Traditional seaside holiday town with plenty of beach and ice cream to enjoy. Check with club as date may be subject to change.

LORD BIRKETT MEMORIAL TROPHY
Postponed – new date TBA, Ullswater YC, Howtown Road, Pooley Bridge, Penrith
OVERVIEW: Two ACH races cover the length of Ullswater, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Ample space for camping and campervans, plus on-site catering and entertainment all weekend makes the Birkett a true festival of sailing.
INSIDER TIP: Enter early, the limit of 230 boats is usually reached long before the event and entry is online only.

ROYAL YORKSHIRE YACHT CLUB REGATTA
25-31 July, Royal Yorkshire YC, Bridlington, East Yorkshire
OVERVIEW: Open regatta sailed in Bridlington Bay, with prizes both for the overall week and first three days. Separate committee boat starts for IRC and local handicap cruisers, Contessa 26s, Yorkshire One Designs, sportsboats/ modern dayboats and Dart 18 catamarans. All of this is combined with stunning scenery and a legendary social programme.
INSIDER TIP: Plan early as accommodation gets booked up. Accommodation is available on a nightly basis in the club bunk room.

SCARBOROUGH YACHT CLUB OPEN REGATTA
29-31 August, Scarborough YC, Scarborough Lighthouse, North Yorkshire
OVERVIEW: Racing over three days of August bank holiday weekend with IRC, 707, Sonata and SYC club handicap, traditionally attracting 40-50 entrants.
INSIDER TIP: Prep for calms and gales, dressage and dining, and the finest steaks and salads outside of a South African beach BBQ.
